Review of McCall's 5678

A pattern for two baby carriers. This is a review for View A.

McCall's Pattern 5678
sewing rating (according to me): easy

I am definitely a proponent of babywearing, so when I saw this pattern I thought I would give it a try. I have used "ring slings" for years; but loved the possiblity using two coordinating fabrics and making a double-sided sling.

Money $aving Tip:
Watch for sales at Joann's, Hancock's, or Hobby Lobby. They will occasionally offer patterns for $1-$2, which is the only time I buy patterns. You can also watch for sales on their 100% cotton fabrics. I would recommend purchasing a good quality fabric, as the inexpensive, thin fabrics may not be secure enough to hold the weight of your baby. Watch for a sale or a coupon and purchase the best quality fabric you can.

The Review:
This baby sling was easy to sew, and complete in about an hour. Apparently there is an older version of the pattern that had an error in the sewing directions; but mine is copyright 2008 and was fine. There are three sizes included in this pattern, and the pattern envelope suggests how to obtain the correct size by measuring from shoulder to hip.

There is only 1 pattern piece for the View A baby carrier. There is a second pattern piece for the optional pocket. I skipped the optional pocket since I'm usually carrying a diaper bag.

I'm glad I made this baby sling and am happy with the result. I would recommend it to other moms. It would make a great gift too!

If you make this pattern, email me a photo and I'll include it on this page!
